Association Background:

Valencia Park Hornets Youth Football & Cheer association was established in 1962. The association had over 10,000 people play for one our divisions and have gone on to play college and professional football.

Mission Statement:

VP is one the oldest youth football and cheerleading organization in San Diego County. VP Football and Cheer is a youth  sports organization that is a non-profit 501C(3) organization whose focus is making sure San Diego’s youth participants have the best possible environment in which to develop smart, responsible, healthy young men and women by giving them experiences that build their appreciation for and understanding of leadership, teamwork, and discipline.

John Glover Sr.

John Glover Sr. was the King Midas of San Diego youth football. Everyone he touched turned to gold. Mr. Glover was mentor to local gridiron legends like Marcus Allen, Terrell Davis and Reggie Bush. A longtime coach and leader of local Pop Warner leagues, he was considered a patriarch of the Southeast San Diego black community. Mr. Glover presided over the Valencia Park Pop Warner from 1973 to 1983 and was vice president and president of San Diego County Pop Warner League between 1983 and 1998.  As a coach and sports league leader, Mr. Glover sought to create an inclusive and ethical place for kids to learn about the values of life. He offered neighborhood kids a safe activity that promoted responsibility and discouraged substance abuse.
